We all have dust in our homes; it's just one of those things we learn to deal with. Even though we have to properly clean our houses on a regular basis to get rid of it or keep it low, there are some great cleaning tips that will help to reduce the amounts of dust in our homes. Did you know that the average household accumulates at least 40 pounds of dust per year? That's a lot of dust to deal with. Dust is actually caused by dust mites who feast on our dead skin cells and then their waste is the dust we see floating around. House dust mites are everywhere, but they're so minuscule that we don't even notice them around. The other dust comes from outside and not all from the house dust mites. It comes in when we leave our windows or door open, or when we come in from outside with some dirt or dust on our shoes. The dust lands and settles on any surface it can and will just accumulate over time if it's allowed to. There is no way to completely get rid of all dust particles in the air, but you can minimize them with a few simple cleaning tips. Here are a few of the cleaning tips from Clean My Space.

1. Since our shoes bring in about 80% of the dust we find in our homes, make sure you have a good door mat at every entry in your home. There are all sorts of cute door mats available out there so find ones that you like and that match with your decor and place them outside and inside your door. Wipe your shoes on the mat before you enter into your home and also make sure you remove your shoes when you go into your house and have guests do the same.

2. Even though having some fresh air circulating through your house is really nice, having your windows open is also a way that dust enters into our homes. So keep in mind how much you're leaving your windows open and close them if it's a really windy day. Leaving the windows on the upper floor of your home open instead of the lower level windows will help to keep that lower lying dust out of your home too.

3. The pillows and rugs in our homes collect a lot of dust too, and even though you may vacuum and wash them, that doesn't get all of the dust-out. So you may want to take them outside every once in a while and beat them with a broom to get the access dust out.

4. A really important thing to do is to change your air filter in your home's furnace at least a couple of times per year. If you can, even four times per year at the start of every season. The air filter traps all of the dust and dirt, but it gets really full after a while and stops working if it's too full of dust. So changing it regularly will help keep excess dust out of the air in your home. You'll also want to clean your vent covers by vacuuming them every once in a while too.

5. Change out the type of duster you're using. Instead of using feather dusters go for a microfiber cloth instead. The microfiber will trap far more dust than a feather duster will, and you can wash it after every use.

Hopefully, you will get some use out of these cleaning tips and find your house feeling a little less dusty than before.***
