People do strange things, including putting things inside their bodies that don't belong there. Here are 9 Things People Put Inside Their Bodies That Had To Be Removed From Their Bodies.

An anti-aircraft shell. This shell was 6.5 inches long by 1.3 inches wide. It looks like a very large bullet. This item was removed from a 40-year-old member of the Royal Air Force. Apparently it was inserted because the gentleman had piles and to help relieve his symptoms, he inserted the shell into his rectum. (Come on, are you really surprised? Where else do you think it would have been inserted?)

A stone. A large one. Not quite as large as the anti-aircraft shell, mind you, but large enough. Again, this gentleman a sailor inserted the stone due to a medical condition. He had a urethral stricture and found that inserting things into his rectum gained him the desired relief. Not having a bottle handy (which, apparently, was his reliever of choice), he instead oiled up a stone and shoved it into his bowel. (I'll spare you the details of its removal. Suffice to say, the doctor was elbow deep trying to help this gentleman.)

Not all items are inserted into the rectum, however. One unfortunate gentleman who liked to brush a little too far down his throat actually swallowed his toothbrush accidentally. (At least his stomach got a good brushing!)

Barts Pathology Museum of London actually holds a special cabinet which houses various items that have been surgically removed from patients. Mostly there is no medical value in keeping these items, but doctors apparently thought it would be funny. They weren't wrong. What is really funny are the various labels beside the showcases: death by misadventure, removed from... an eccentric and uncouth looking man..." and so on.

Unfortunately most of the items on the list were inserted via the rectum. One gentleman actually died by inserting a particular item into his rectum which then pierced his abdominal viscera, liver, pancreas and, finally, his heart. This just goes to show, there is a fine line between pleasure and pain (and death, apparently).
