Are You A Tart Fan? Try These 45 Delicious Recipes And Choose Your Winner!
When I think “tart”, I think a dessert. Something sweet (and, perhaps, even a little tart). Though tarts aren’t a dessert we commonly reach for when our sweet tooth gets the better of us. A tart isn’t necessarily just a dessert food, though, and there are many delicious savory tart recipes. However, after going through and agreeing with all 45 of Our Favorite Tart Recipes, a list put together by food recipe site “My Recipes”, I think I’m going to treat myself to a tart a little more often.
A tart is a baked dish consisting of a filling over a pastry base with an open top (not covered with pastry). The pastry is usually a shortcrust (it doesn’t puff up during baking because it generally contains no leavening agent) and the filling can be either sweet or savory (though most modern tarts are usually fruit-based, sometimes with custard). A ‘tartlet’ merely refers to a miniature tart. The categories of tart, flan, quiche and pie all kind of overlap with no really sharp distinctions between them, so don’t worry if you’re a little confused by some of the different tart recipes. One of the tart recipes that really got my mouth watering is the Chocolate Raspberry Tart. I love all things chocolate and, traditionally, I am not used to chocolate tarts. The dough is actually much the same recipe as many tart pastries with the addition of cocoa powder. The recipe for the custard, again, is quite familiar with the addition of cocoa powder and some melted semisweet chocolate. The raspberries are simply placed atop the tart for decoration as much as for flavor, proving a slight tart taste to the sweet chocolate tart.
Perhaps a very apt tart at the moment, considering autumn is just around the corner, is the Pumpkin Tart with Whipped Cream and Almond Toffee. If you’re a lover of all things pumpkin, then this probably sounds delicious. And it is. The tart is very much like a pumpkin pie with a different crust. In this tart recipe, the almond toffee is very much negotiable and can be left off if you feel it may be too sweet for you.
Unfortunately there are not a lot of savory tart recipes included in our ’45 Favorites’ list. Personally, while the dessert tarts are by far my favorite, I do feel there is a real place in the food world for savory tarts (especially when considering quiche is often considered to be a tart). One of the absolutely delicious tart recipes, however, is for a Cheesy Bacon-and-Two-Onion Tart. With this recipe, feel free to add: add more bacon, add more cheese, add more of whatever you like best.
Perhaps you could start a tart quest and try a new tart every day for the next 45 days (wouldn’t that be delicious?!) Or, maybe just try the ones that really appeal to your taste buds. Either way, these 45 delicious tart recipes are sure to please.
