Bacon Cheddar Corn Muffins

I love pigs. They are on the top three in my list of favorite animals. But…forgive me my beloved pigs, animals dearest to my heart. I just love bacon. I love YOU and your bacon. *sobs* I just want to eat bacon right now. Oh sweet, sweet bacon: why do you have to be from pigs?! *soft soft sobs* Fellow bacon fans, there’s nothing we can really do about it. All we can do now is appreciate what they are giving to us: food to survive. Well, Sir Pig, you’re sacrifice will not be put in vain. Lets take a minute and learn about bacon.

The question here is: who invented bacon? Bacon or bacoun comes from the sides, belly and back of the pig. I can feel you agony now, Sir Pig. *sighs*

The word bacon derived from the German word ‘bak’. It is then introduced to English people through the French and is first used in English in the 12th century. However, the meaning of bacon is not clear, whether it is cured meat or just pure pork meat.

According to Oxford Companion to Food during the 17th century, bacon is a product of the United Kingdom. It is possible that someone British has invented it but no one really knows who did. Bacon production has spread to the entire British nation during the 18th century. According to William Harris, bacon is a popular diet among the English and French people. The first bacon shop by John Harris in Wiltshire becomes a popular place for the production of bacon. Romans also have their own version of it. They do it by browning the meat and flavor it with wine and pepper, and named it Pickled Pork.

Whoever invented bacon though, I thank him. It has become an enjoyable food for everyone and we all love it! Let us forget about pigs for now, let us just enjoy and have fun making this Bacon Cheddar Corn Muffins! *winks*
