UFOs are no strangers to Bakersfield, California. Recently, there have been a number of strange UFO sightings in the area. Back in April, California residents catch blue UFO on video and it has a lot of people talking. Was it indeed a UFO? If not, what was it?

People have been witnessing UFOs, and recording their accounts, since as early as 214 BCE when Livy recorded an appearance of ships had shone forth from the sky. In 74 BCE Plutarch was about to begin a battle when noticed that all on a sudden, the sky burst asunder, and a huge flame-like body was seen to fall between the two armies. In shape, it was most like a wine-jar, and in colour, like molten silver. There are many reports of UFO sightings between the 16th and 19th centuries as well. In 1561, the citizens of Nuremberg beheld A very frightful spectacle when the sky appeared to fill with cylindrical objects from which red, black, orange and blue white disks and globes emerged. Between 1896 and 1897 there were numerous reports in the United States of UFO sightings and attempted abductions and in the same year in Aurora Texas, S. E. Hayden reported a tale of a UFO crash and a burial of its alien pilot in the local cemetery. However, the 20th and 21st centuries have reported UFO sightings at increasing and alarming rates. In 1957 at the Edwards Air Force Base, which is about 80 miles southwest of Bakersfield, Jeff Gettys and James Bittick, who were filming base installations observed the landing and departure of a silent flying disk. Their film evidence was sent to Washington, D.C.

In April in southwest Bakersfield a number of residents reported spotting a bright blue UFO in the evening. It was spotted on Valentine's Day and again one month later. The mysterious light was described by witnesses as very bright and blue. Some reported it making weird movements in the sky before disappearing altogether. While one witness stated a flash of light looked like lightening, another said it did not look like lightening to them. Yet another witness said It pretty much flew, stopped, then started doing some upward motion and downward motion.

Videos of the mysterious object in the sky were taken to the Kern County Sherriff's Department, who works closely with the local airport. Senior Deputy Victor Keesey stated he wasn't aware of any calls reporting blue or other strange lights. Similarly, the videos were shown to the Edwards Air Force Base who also indicated having received no calls about lights. However, the Base mentioned it could be an aurora in the sky, possible testing from Vandenberg or a military or civilian drone. But one witness stated, It looked way too high up in the sky to be a drone.

In 1974, President Ronald Regan who was still governor of California at the time, indicated that while in a plane over Bakersfield he looked out the window and saw a white light. He reportedly asked the pilot 'Have you seen anything like that before?' to which the pilot replied 'Nope'. Another possible UFO sighting, by the President himself. This time, the lights are blue, but are just as mysterious. Was it a UFO? If not, what was it?
