Easiest Way to Clean and Disinfect Your Shower Head!

Find Your Perfect ONLINE JOB

A clogged shower head is just about as bad as a clogged shower drain. Your water doesn't come out of the shower head at nearly the same pressure as it's capable of and all of the hard water deposits make even the newest shower head look old and crusty. When you have hard water deposits or buildup on anything, it can be really difficult to remove. Mainly because of the hardened minerals that are impervious to water. These hard minerals are usually calcium and magnesium and they are what's left behind after water evaporates and they build up over time which makes them even harder to remove. Hard water will have a higher content of these minerals because it's filtered through limestone. That's why chemical cleaners like CLR work so well because they're specially formulated to deal with Calcium, Lime and Rust. But what if you don't want to use the chemical cleaners and would rather use natural cleaners? This is one of the bathroom cleaning hacks that has us use natural cleaners over the toxic ones so you don't have to worry about polluting your home or the environment. All you need for this cleaning trick is some vinegar, a sandwich bag and an elastic band.

White distilled vinegar is a miracle worker when it comes to cleaning naturally. You can pretty much use vinegar to clean anything in your home. Because of it's high acidity, vinegar is perfect for working away at hard water deposits. The acid will break down the calcium and magnesium leaving you with no more hard water deposits. Vinegar is also great for disinfecting and deodorizing too so it's a really good ingredient to have around the house for all of your cleaning needs. In this bathroom cleaning hack, you're going to take the vinegar and pour some into the plastic bag. Then, submerge the shower head into the bag of vinegar and secure it in place with the elastic band or hair tie to keep it in place. You'll leave the shower head submerged in the vinegar for at least an hour, you'll start to see the calcium and magnesium start to break down even after 20 minutes or so. If your shower head is really covered in hard water deposits, then you may want to leave the bag on overnight and then return to it the next day.

Once you've allowed the shower head to soak in the bag of vinegar, you can remove it. When you take the bag off, you'll notice that without even scrubbing some of the deposits have come off already making your job a lot easier. For all of the left over spots, use a cleaning toothbrush, one that you wouldn't use for brushing your teeth of course, and start to scrub all over the shower head. The smaller bristles of the tooth brush will help you to really get into the tiny little spaces between the holes in the shower head and even right in the holes themselves to remove any gunk. Once you've scrubbed it enough, you can then flush it out with some hot water for 30 seconds or so to really remove any of the gunk inside the shower head holes. If you didn't get all of the hard water off, just repeat these steps until you're satisfied. You can also try using cleaning vinegar which has a higher acidity than regular vinegar.
