As a child I had the pleasure of eating my father's homemade donuts once in a while, there really isn't anything like it. Donuts are already a favorite treat, but there's something about eating them warm and made at home that just takes them over the top. Some of the ingredients you will need for this super easy maple bars donut recipe include refrigerated biscuit dough (Pillsbury Grand Homestyle buttermilk biscuits can be used), canola oil for frying, butter, brown sugar, maple extract, and powdered sugar. To start you will pour the canola oil into a medium sized saucepan and begin heating on medium low heat. Open the biscuit dough and separate, gently stretching the biscuits into an oblong shape, as opposed to the round shape they come in. In a small saucepan combine the maple glaze ingredients starting with the butter and brown sugar, whisking in the milk and heating for about five minutes on medium heat, stirring often until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and add the other maple glaze ingredients. Keep the maple glaze warm on the stove, whisking occasionally. Check the temperature of the oil using a meat thermometer, it needs to read 350 degree Fahrenheit, increase heat gradually if necessary.
