This project provides school fees, meals and care to 85 vulnerable children at a nursery school and daycare in Kibera, Kenya who are orphaned or whose parents are unable to provide food and tuition.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Located in Kenya, with 1 million residents, Kibera is Africa's largest slum. Increasing poverty, HIV/AIDS, ethnic violence, and an ongoing food crisis pose great threats to Kibera's residents. Many children raised in this environment, unable to attend school and left alone at home, seek companionship on the streets where they are vulnerable to abuse. This project offers a unique alternative for the children: a safe place where they are educated and receive the love and care necessary for growth.

How will this project solve this problem?

The project provides orphans and vulnerable children ages 3-7 with early education, two daily meals, a school uniform and supplies, and the attention and care of a dedicated teaching and support staff at the St. Vincent de Paul Nursery School.

Potential Long Term Impact

Ensure educational opportunities, good nutrition and care for 85 children to help them lead healthier more productive lives; Enable parents to take advantage of employment opportunities; Offer local solution to help families in Kibera to avoid hunger
