Find Your Perfect ONLINE JOB

You might think your dishwasher is pretty clean. You run it through once or twice a day, sometimes more if you have a busy household. While it may sound a bit strange to clean your dishwasher because you think it must be clean from cleaning dishes all day, it's not as clean as you'd think it is. There's a lot of stuff that gets stuck in your dishwasher, from chunks of food to grease from food. The accumulation of all of this build up can cause your dishwasher to run less than optimally which can result in wasting energy and sometimes water too. Also, your dish washer will have to run harder to clean your dishes effectively which wastes energy, and it may also result in your dishwasher breaking down. Then you'd have to pay for repairs or buy a new one in some cases, so it's really just easier to implement these cleaning tips and save your dishwasher. You can do this cleaning routine twice a year for optimal performance, but even doing it once a year will help keep your dishwasher nice and clean. It will cut through all of that nasty grime and it will make it smell a lot better too.

So the first thing you'll do is get down to eye level with the bottom of your dishwasher so you can see the drain. You want to check if there's anything in the drain that could be seriously clogging it up. You never know what might be clogging the drain up. Sometimes bones or pits from fruit can be lingering in there that cause a blockage in the drain. Things that don't dissolve easily in the water. If you see anything just pick it out and throw it in the garbage. You may want to wear gloves for that part because it can get pretty yucky sometimes. Once you're sure that your drain is clear, you can then start the cleaning process. So gather your natural cleaners including white distilled vinegar and baking soda. Then get a glass measuring cup and pour in a cup of the vinegar. Then make sure there are no dishes in your dishwasher and place the measuring cup with the vinegar in it on the top shelf in the middle of the rack. Next, you're going to let the dishwasher run through a cycle with no dishes in it to clean your dishwasher really well.

After the vinegar cycle, you're going to get your baking soda and sprinkle a cup of that into the bottom of the dishwasher all over that area. Then run the dishwasher through another cycle on the hottest water setting possible. This will help to deodorize and clean the dishwasher just like the vinegar did but it will also scrub away the stains inside your dishwasher too. You can also add some bleach into the cycle with the baking soda if you have some mold or mildew growing in your dishwasher, but that's completely optional and only really necessary for mold and mildew. If you want to keep your dishwasher running smoothly Jill from One Good Thing With Jillee recommends running your garbage disposal before you run your dishwasher. Since both of these things run on the same pipe, you want to make sure the line is clear before you start a cycle. Also, make sure you run full loads of dishes through the dishwasher but not too full. You may also be surprised to learn that you shouldn't be pre washing your dishes before putting them into the dishwasher, find out the reason in the video.***
