Go Green! 15 Green Smoothie and Juice Recipes

Greens can be consumed in many ways, and one very delicious choice is to turn them into fresh smoothies and juices. These “Go Green! 15 Green Smoothie and Juice Recipes” make eating greens very appealing. While juicing veggies and drinking smoothies isn’t a complete substitute for eating raw or cooked vegetables, it can be a great way to get used to some of the veggies we don't normally eat and aid us in adding these greens into our regular diets.

One of the healthiest green leafy vegetables is kale. It is high in beta carotene, vitamin K, and vitamin C, and is rich in calcium. It also appears to block cancer cells. Kale was one of the most popular vegetables until the end of the 15th century. During World War II, the uptake in kale’s popularity grew (in the U.K.) with the Dig for Victory campaign (farmers were encouraged to grow kale – not only was it easy to grow, but it also provided many nutrients missing from the common rationed diet). A secret to making kale tastier is to freeze it first; exposing kale to frost makes it sweeter and more flavorful. With all of the health benefits of kale, it is definitely worth adding to your diet.

Along with kale there are other juice and smoothie options, such as apple, carrot and spinach juice, the purple parsley smoothie, or the spinach grape smoothie. If you are curious to give kale a try in a drink, you should try the green citrus energy smoothie, the purple berry “green” smoothie (which utilizes purple kale), or the tropical green smoothie which sees kale paired with tropical flavors like pineapple, banana and orange juice.
