Nothing's better than finding an easy recipe you can make when you're feeling really easy. Especially when that recipe is for chocolate cake. Who doesn't love chocolate cake after all? That heavenly, rich and moist cake with hopefully a delicious chocolate frosting on top. Most chocolate cake recipes aren't too difficult to make, but this one is probably the easiest one you'll ever find. Thanks to Jack from Cooking With Jack and to Red Hot Awesome for sharing this recipe so that we can all try it out ourselves at home. This will be a good recipe to make with your kids if they're interested in learning how to bake. Just be sure to supervise and assist them in the process. One of the other easiest chocolate cake recipes is known as the Wacky Cake or Crazy Cake which was made during the great depression when certain ingredients were not as available. So the cake used vinegar and baking soda in it in place of the eggs, with some vegetable oil in place of the butter. It actually turns out to be one of the moistest, yummiest cakes you'll ever try, and likely the same is true about this chocolate cake.

In the video on Red Hot Awesome, Jack shows us how to whip up this cake in no time flat. All you need is 1 box of Devil's food cake mix, 1 2/3 cups water, 3 eggs, 1/3 cup oil, 2 cups cold milk, One package instant chocolate pudding mix, and 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips. Gather all your ingredients together and grab your slow cooker or your crock pot. Yes, you're going to slow cook a cake, which wouldn't be the first way you'd think to bake a cake, but apparently, it works really well. You can also get some plastic liners for your crock pot that you can remove once you're cake is done, so you don't have to scrub your crock pot out. Make your boxed cake batter in the bowl by adding in the water and the eggs with the oil. Mix it all up in the bowl with a whisk and then you just add it to the crock pot. But that's not it, because this isn't just your regular chocolate cake. You could just bake the chocolate cake like that all on it's own, but you're going to add in some chocolate pudding to make a Chocolate Lava Cake. Mix up the pudding and the milk and let it set to thicken up a bit. Pour the chocolate pudding right on top of the chocolate cake mix in the crock pot and then pour in the chocolate chips on top of everything. You can use dark chocolate chips if you want a richer flavor since dark chocolate doesn't have a lot of sugar mixed in with it.

You then let the cake ingredients bake for 3 hours in the crock pot. It may seem like a very long time to bake a cake, but don't worry, it'll be totally worth it. It's really interesting because when the cake is done, the chocolate chips have disappeared from the top of the cake and they will remain inside the cake creating the chocolate lava in this cake recipe. What a great recipe for an easy, no hassle chocolate cake. Jack even has his son try the cake out when it's done, and he loves it, so that's a good sign. Try this recipe out the next time you're craving a super chocolatey cake and see what you think about it. You can even top it off with some whipped cream to make it extra decadent.***
