Sometimes there exists a dessert recipe so awesome, you just have to share it with the world. And that is exactly what Mary, the face behind the Sweet Little Bluebird food and crafts blog did with her delicious Snickerdoodle Donut Muffins recipe. If you've never had a Snickerdoodle Donut Muffin (which you probably haven't), this is must try sweet that might just taste a little sinful but is really quite heavenly!

You might even be asking yourself, 'what in the world is a snickerdoodle?' A snickerdoodle is a type of cookie that is made with butter (or oil), sugar and flour and is then rolled in cinnamon sugar. Eggs may sometimes be used along with cream of tartar and baking soda in order to leaven the dough. Depending on preference, snickerdoodles can be baked until crisp or left a little soft. It is likely this cookie is German in origin since the name is a somewhat corrupt form of the word Schneckennudel, or snail noodles', which are a kind of German pastry. It is also entirely possible that it is just a New England nonsensical word with no real meaning (which is in keeping with the New England tradition of whimsical cookie names). But whatever its origin, snickerdoodles are a classic cookie that are oh-so good.

Mary kind of stumbled across another delicious donut muffin recipe that she in turn made her own. Her youngest of two sweet girls is allergic to eggs and has, therefore, never tasted a donut (which is just so wrong.) But Mary managed to find a donut muffin recipe that didn't call for eggs. Great! Her creative mind started working in overdrive at that stage. On the same afternoon she stumbled across a no-egg donut muffin recipe, she had planned to make her husband his favorite childhood cookie: snickerdoodles. So what did she do? Mary developed the most delicious no-egg Snickerdoodle Donut Muffins recipe. Ever. And what a clever concoction!

Donut muffins are probably exactly like what you're picturing. A sweet, cake-like treat with the taste and softness of a donut in the shape of a muffin. Marrying this already perfect pair with a traditional cinnamon and sugar coated snickerdoodle cookie is just pure genius! It is actually reminiscent of old-fashioned donuts cooked in oil and then sugar-coated, but without all that extra grease. A healthy treat recipe. Well, healthier.

For this easy Snickerdoodle Donut Muffins recipe, you will need sugar, butter, milk, all-purpose flour, cream of tartar, baking powder and nutmeg and cinnamon. This is one of those multi-bowl dessert recipes where you'll dirty a few extra dishes, but the end result is so worth the extra clean-up (you might even be so happy after eating these delicious Snickerdoodle Donut Muffins that you'll enjoy doing the dishes... I did say might). After mixing all of your ingredients according to the dessert recipe instructions, spoon them into muffin tins, bake for 18-20 minutes, remove from the oven and while each donut muffin is still warm, dip them in a dish of melted butter and then into a dish of mixed sugar and cinnamon, then place on wax paper to cool or enjoy them warm with a cold glass of milk.

And that's it! Possibly one of the most wonderful dessert recipes I've ever tried, this Snickerdoodle Donut Muffins recipe is not only quick and easy to prepare, but it's also downright delicious! Mary's one last suggestion is to make a double batch because these are so good they'll go too quick and leave you wanting more.
