When you think about ways to keep your toilet clean or repair it, you're probably not thinking about using a drink mix in the process. You would have never guessed why she poured Kool-Aid in the back of her toilet, but it's so clever. Bet you never thought you could use an all time favourite beverage to check for a leak in your toilet, but you can and it works amazingly well. People have loved Kool-Aid ever since it hit the market. Kool-Aid was originally created by a man named Edwin Perkins, who was originally intending to make and sell a fruit beverage. He had his recipe all ready to go, but when he started packaging it to ship it, he found out that it would be very expensive to mail out to customers and stores. So Edwin went back to the drawing board and realized that if he removed the water from the drink, it would leave all of the flavoured crystals behind. The crystals could then be rehydrated by customers adding in their own water, plus they were much less costly to ship out since it was basically like mailing dust. This was back in 1931 when he began selling the flavoured drink crystals, and they became so popular over the years that in the 1950s, his product was bought by Kraft Foods and Kool-Aid has become a part of childhood in the US and in Canada.

So why use it for a natural toilet cleaner or a way to see if you have a leak? The reason why it's great to use to see if you have a leak in your toilet tank, is because of the colouring in the powder. You just add the colourful powder to the tank of your toilet, wait 30 minutes at least, and if there is coloured water in your toilet bowl, you have a leak. Sometimes it can be as easy as replacing the flapper, then doing the Kool-Aid test again to see if that fixed it. But if there is still coloured water in the toilet bowl, you may have a bigger issue to deal with. Kool-Aid is also awesome for cleaning toilets. Reason being is that Kool-Aid powder has citric acid in it, which is one of the wonderful non toxic cleaners you can add to your cleaning regiment to keep your toilet clean. Keep in mind that the citrus flavours of Kool-Aid will work the best because they have more citric acid in them. So any lemon, lime or orange flavours will be best for a natural toilet cleaner. But for checking for leaks, you can use any colour or flavour.
