With Fantastic Beasts being a popular addition to the Harry Potter franchise, Jude Law has just been cast in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Law will portray a young Dumbledore. The two-time Oscar nominee has been cast in the new movie, to portray Dumbledore long before the iconic wizard became the Headmaster at Hogwarts school. In the new movie fans will meet the character decades earlier then when Dumbledore he was serving as the wizarding school's Transfiguration professor. Dumbledore is also a contemporary of Gellert Grindelwald, the charismatic dark wizard who believes wizards are superior to Muggles and No-Majs.

The new script by J.K. Rowling is said to move deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt Scamander and fans other heroes have to decide on their allegiances. Director David Yates said in a statement that Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work he has long admired, and he is looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. Shooting for the new film begins this summer on the sequel to last fall's Fantastic Beasts, which earned more than $813 million at the global box office. The sequel has yet to be named and is slated for release on November 16th, 2018. The cast for the new film includes Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, who is expected to return for the next installment along with Johnny Depp. The popular Pirates of the Caribbean star made a brief appearance at the end of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as the dark wizard Grindelwald, though his casting was quite controversial among fans when it was revealed last year. Previously Dumbledore was played by actor Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the Harry Potter films.

Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore is a fictional character in popular J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. For most of the series, Professor Dumbledore is the headmaster of the wizarding school Hogwarts. As part of the Professors backstory, it is revealed that he is the founder and leader of the Order of the Phoenix, which is an organization that is dedicated to fighting Lord Voldemort. J.K. Rowling, the author of the popular novels, has stated that she enjoys writing Dumbledore because he is the epitome of goodness. Rowling said that Professor Dumbledore speaks for her, as he knows pretty much everything there is to know about the Harry Potter universe. J.K. Rowling also mentioned that Dumbledore regrets that he has always had to be the one who knew, and who had the burden of knowing. And the Professor has said that he would rather not know. Dumbledore being the mentor to the central character of Harry Potter is considered to be a very wise man who knows that Harry is going to have to learn a few hard lessons to prepare him for what may be coming in his life. Dumbledore also allows Harry to get into what he wouldn't allow another pupil to do, and he also unwillingly permits Harry Potter to confront things he'd rather protect him from. In a 1999 interview, J.K. Rowling stated that she imagined Professor Dumbledore as more of a John Gielgud type, a man that was quite elderly and stately. During the professors time as a student, he was in Gryffindor House. J.K. Rowling said in an interview that Professor Dumbledore was about 150 years old.
