Little Girls Dream Kitchen

Instead of getting your kids the generic plastic toys from the toy store, why not try some diy ideas like this dream kitchen unit? So many of the toys out there for kids are made from plastic and they can also be quite expensive too. Why not make your kids some toys out of old wooden furniture? It's one of the great ways to recycle old furniture and give it a new life, plus it'll stay looking great for years to come. All you need for this diy project is an old wooden console. For this particular diy idea on Hometalk, they used an old record player console, but you can use an old buffet table or a TV stand, anything that's nice and low to the ground and that would be the perfect height for a kid to stand at. First of all, if it's a record player unit, you'll have to take it apart, which you can see being done in the diy tutorial on Hometalk. All they do is remove the speakers and the hardware and take apart the entire thing to transform it into something new and cool.

To make it into a little play kitchen, you can just make a hole for a sink and install a faucet along with it. Of course, it won't be attached to plumbing, but the child's imagination will take care of imagining the water pouring from the tap into the sink bowl. Then, you can install some electric burners with drip pans beneath them. If you can't find any of these, you can also paint on some burners as well and add some knobs that turn to the front of the piece of furniture. Painting the entire thing in white or a bright color will also update the unit, and for this unit, they replaced the old material with some new, brightly colored material. There are so many options to make yours look how you want it to look and you can even have it match your own kitchen or home decor so it feels like a part of the home. You could also place a solid door on one of the openings and make it into a fridge by painting the door to look like a fridge and adding a fridge handle onto it. Another door could be added to act as an oven door beneath the stove top too, and you could paint it as well and add on a large handle and put some oven racks in the oven space.

Another idea is to make one of these old consoles into a workbench for a child with child-safe tools and storage for them all. Or, even a craft table with space to make crafts and storage for all their crafting supplies as well. One of these would also be great to make into a huge doll house for Barbies, with built in storage for all of the clothes and dolls, as well as a garage for their cars and such. The options are endless just use your imagination or get your child to help you create something amazing that they will love. If you're looking for other ways to recycle old items, check out the diy ideas on the Hometalk website. They have a bunch of great diy projects you can try including making outdoor tables for your patio, and even making an outdoor water feature for your back yard too. It's so nice to have all of these great ideas in one place so it's easy to find the perfect diy tutorials and ideas to make.***
