Make a Hardwood Floor that looks 3D from your Own Trees
Wow, check out this beautiful, elegant, and absolutely TRIPPY floor! Did you know you can make a hardwood floor that looks 3D with wood from your own local trees? Well, you can, and here's how!
If you love wood grains and appreciate how each grain has its own beautiful, unique design, then you will adore this intricate flooring pattern. An added bonus is that you can make it without having to use a mill or any large-scale tools! However, it's important to realize a project like this is truly a labour of love it's far from easy, and you have to be really committed if you want to see it through from beginning to end.
The first point to consider is what trees will you use? Start looking around outside healthy timber around your property as well as other locally-sourced wood. What's available? What works best? Well, using northeast Montana as an example, you can take the Siberian Elm, Ash, and Russian Olive into account. The rich chocolate hues of the Russian Olive could provide a lovely contrast with other woods for your flooring, but it has a few issues one of which is that it doesn't often grow straight and is, therefore, tricky to mill long slabs of it. However, a patterned floor like this one only requires small pieces so, voila, the Russian Olive offers beautiful wood and comes in small, efficient sizes. Perfect! In fact, each of these three trees offers qualities that work in a flooring pattern like this one, with the Ash tree probably being the most desirable. So it's all good!
This tiling design uses something called rhombus or diamond-shaped pattern. It basically requires three different hues or types of wood, so voila if you can find three different kinds of trees in your neighbourhood that will foot the bill, you can get started on your beautiful new floor.
