We can all relate to that one! So cooler is sometimes better depending on the season. But this cake recipe could also be a big hit in the winter time for the holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. So if you want to do some un-baking, roll up your sleeves and get to reading this great recipe!

Icebox cake is very similar to a trifle, where the dessert has layers upon layers of ingredients. The recipe became very popular in the 1920s and 1930s when companies began to print the recipe for icebox cakes on the label of their pre-made ingredients that were part of the cake, like condensed milk and the chocolate wafer cookies that are made by Nabisco. These are still the same chocolate wafer cookies that they sell in the grocery store these days in North America. One version of the traditional icebox cake is made by layering the chocolate wafers and the whipped cream until the dish is filled to the top, the other version that was invented by Ernestine Emanuel, included using graham crackers instead of the chocolate wafers and chocolate pudding instead of the whipped cream. The recipe can be enhanced and modified by using vanilla pudding or whipped cream and by adding different pieces of sweet food like pineapples or bananas, maybe strawberries.

The reason it is called an icebox cake is because of the fact that it goes into the icebox or refrigerator as we know it, after it is put together, to chill overnight and to allow the different layers to meld together and soften. This is why it is sort of like a trifle too, with all of the layers of whipped cream and the cookies, sometimes fruit, chilled before serving. So this no bake peanut butter cookies and cream icebox cake recipe is like a total revolution on the original, very simple icebox cake recipe with just whipped cream and chocolate wafers. This epic recipe includes Nutter Butters cookies, which are a peanut butter cookie sandwich, Oreo cookies, and graham crackers AND Reece's miniature peanut butter cups! Layered with Cool Whip and the Nutter Butter and Oreo cookies are dipped in milk to soften them a bit more before they get layered, so they turn out to have a nice cakey consistency. Before the pieces of the icebox cake get served, each piece is drizzled with chocolate sauce and sprinkled with chopped up Reece's miniature peanut butter cups.... Wow... That would be a mouthful of chocolatey goodness right there.

Seriously, this is probably one of the easiest and most awesome dessert recipes you could make if you have a birthday cake, or a potluck dessert to make. You could even get your kids to assist you in the process; they would probably have a riot dipping the cookies and layering them and then spreading out the cool whip. The only hard part would be to wait until everything is all ready to try out! Enjoy this fabulous icebox cake recipe!
