Peanut Butter Cheesecake Brownie Bars

I would always say yes to a piece of this dessert. This Peanut Butter Cheesecake Brownie Bar with Ganache has all of our favorites in it.

Baked in an 8x8 pan, the bottom layer is a from scratch brownie. The filling is peanut butter, whipped cream and cream cheese, and it gets topped with chocolate ganache. Oh My Goodness.

So what is it about this combination that is so appealing? You hear it all the time. I love chocolate! I love peanut butter! The Peanut butter cup has certainly become a well-known confectionary. It was Harry Burnett (H.B.) Reese that created Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. This was a very smart marketing move on his part as this is likely one of the highest selling candy bars out there.

So was it because of this candy bar that the combination became so well loved? The peanut butter cup goes all the way back to 1928, so we could expect that this winning combination was the stem of so many desserts using these elements.

Mildred Brown Schrumpf of Bangor, Maine. Brownies were an accident that come out of her kitchen. Mildred was baking a chocolate cake and forgot to add the leavening to her batter. Of course, the cake was a failure as it did not rise. Well Mildred was not about to throw out the cake just because of that, so story has it she cut it into small pieces and served it up to her family. And the rest is history. Mildred published her recipe in 1906 in a School Cook Book. The recipe was published in 1907 in the Lowney's Cookbook and the Brownie was here to stay.

Let this be a lesson to us all. Never assume your baking flop is a flop. You may just have created a recipe that will around for generations to come.
