If you have hard water in your home, you are probably used to seeing hard water stains on your faucets, tiles, shower doors, bathtubs, toilets, sinks and elsewhere. These hard water stains can be unsightly, and they're also really difficult to remove as well. So how are they caused? Since hard water is filtered through lime, it contains mineral which causes these hard water deposits. These minerals are usually calcium and magnesium which are not harmful to us, but they tend to build up quickly on other surfaces. So, when any water containing these minerals is allowed to sit on a surface, the water will evaporate but the minerals won't leaving them behind to build up. The scales and build up you see are the minerals we call hard water deposits, hard water stains or lime scale. One of the only ways to prevent hard water deposits is to install a water softener in your home that will filter all of the hard minerals out of the water. Since they can be quite pricey, most people don't have them in their homes, but there are a few cleaning tips that can help you keep the stains under control.

There are chemical products made to take care of these nasty stains, but keeping chemical cleaners out of your home is a safer and healthier way to clean. Most people are preferring using natural cleaners over the chemical ones because it's healthier for their family as well as for the environment. So you can start using natural cleaners like white vinegar and baking soda in place of bleaches and harsh chemicals. If you are finding hard water stains in your toilet for example, just use some simple baking soda and vinegar which are awesome at cleaning hard water stains off of surfaces including the inside of your toilet bowl. Just take your vinegar and pour one cup of it into the toilet bowl and mix it around with your toilet brush. Then let it sit for a few minutes. Next, add in one cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl and also add in another cup of white vinegar. Let all of this sit for at least 10 minutes. It will be fizzing and bubbling which is a good sign since this is what will help to loosen the hard water deposits making it easier to scrub them off.

Once it's sat and had a chance to work, take your toilet scrubbing brush and begin scrubbing the hard water deposits in the toilet bowl. You'll hopefully see them coming off pretty easily. If not, you may want to repeat this cleaning tutorial again until you get the desired results. You can also get rid of the hard water stains at the top of your toilet bowl by soaking paper towels in vinegar and then placing them around the upper ridge of the toilet bowl where they can wedge in and stay there for a little while. Then, just let them sit again for at least an hour or longer if needed and when you take them off just scrub the area really well and rinse by flushing the toilet. For hard water stains on your faucets, you can also use white vinegar. Just pour some of the vinegar onto a rag and then wrap the saturated cloth around the faucet and leave it there for about 30 minutes or more. When you come back, just scrub the faucet with a cloth, and it should shine like new again. Try these cleaning tips using natural cleaners and see just how well they work.***
