The Golden Horse In Iceland

A good photo can tell a story, evoke emotion and take us to a far off place all within a moment. That is what this lovely photo The Golden Horse In Iceland does for me, it holds myself the viewer for an eternity with the horses haunting stare and that magical instant where time stands still.

Taking a good photo is all in the timing, if you're taking photos of horses or any animal for that matter, you want that exact moment where they are facing in the right direction, right angle and a shot where everything, well aligns. This of course is easier said than done. Thankfully technology gives us the opportunity to take countless photos, until you get that perfect shot. I remember well the days before digital photography when film and the cost of developing were expensive, and you were limited in the amount of photos you took.

Another important aspect of photography is the lighting. It could be said it's all in the lighting, if the lighting isn't right it can ruin your whole photo. With that said there is something called the golden hour or magic hour of photography. This is that time shortly after sunrise or before sunset when the sunlight is softer then when the sun is higher in the sky. The sun is closer to the horizon, creating a golden, softer light that makes for a beautiful photo. It is the time every photographer lives for. As you can see from this photo, it is a lovely effect. This golden hour or really it's just a golden moment is fleeting, coming and going in a moment so you need to be quick!
