Wow, what a great idea! Turn wooden scraps into useful treasures! I have been looking for a gift for along these lines for my little sisters cottage house. It's an island, and a hipster-rustic place, and there are never enough seats down by the water during the hot summer days and too few seats roasting marshmallows by the campfire in the evening.

This is a great suggestion and could even be a group craft project for the adults and the kids to decorate. A couple layers of paint or even just sanded and treated with wood stain and these are good to go and easy to fold up and tuck away in the shed for the winter months. I am always looking for low mess and no clutter solutions, and this seems like a cottage necessity. I wish I knew how much weight these chairs will hold and if they were comfortable for longer periods of sitting down. A functional gift that we could all try to make.I am thinking about ordering one online and then using it as a "stencil" and then making a couple more at the cottage.

There are a few books online that take you step-by-step through the process from a plain block of wood to a knife rack or table tray. You can build so many other ideas with just a board! Besides the obvious cutting board, you can build a shelf or a wine rack if you drill a few holes and with a few more cuts you can even build a birdhouse. This project looks safe enough for even me to try!

Most of these projects are family-friendly using scrap lumber and require a few basic tools and some elbow grease.
