Tiny Homes, by Lloyd Kahn
If you’re interested in the tiny house movement, you’ll be happy to know there’s a new book available on the subject, complete with a whole gallery of gorgeous photos! It’s called “Tiny Homes”, was written by Lloyd Kahn, and it’s available on Amazon.
Editor-in-chief at California’s independent Shelter Publications, Lloyde Kahn is an expert on creative carpentry and architecture, and he’s written one other book on the tiny house movement, entitled “Tiny Homes on the Move: Wheels and Water”. Tiny homes are becoming all the rage all across the world, but particularly in North America. Why? Well aside from making great subjects for picture books, they just make a heck of a lot of sense.
The tiny house movement is growing with every day and tiny homes are popping up everywhere, as natural as dandelions in the landscape. Many factors of our modern day life have clustered together to make tiny home living so popular, including tough economic times, credit card debt, and the real estate collapse. And who wants to work 12 to 16 hours a day to pay off an astronomical rent or a mortgage anyway? We sure don’t. The tiny house movement offers a very attractive alternative to the old way of doing things. A practical, solid, and beautiful home is now possible without having to sell your soul to the bank.
In addition to being economically appealing, tiny houses can give us a much simpler life – one with less clutter, fewer bills, and minimal maintenance. What’s more, they can nurture a much deeper connection with nature, because when you live in a tiny home, the whole world is your backyard! That’s why we like tiny homes with big windows – they are truly the best of both worlds. In addition to all of these wonderful things, tiny houses also have a very small ecological footprint. What does that mean? Well, because they are so small and energy efficient, they are easy on the environment. Not only will you have more change in your pocket with a tiny home, you will be able to sleep at night knowing you’re not taxing Mother Earth.
So, about this wonderful new tiny home book by Lloyd Kahn? If you love stories, and especially stories with pictures, you will love this book. It features one hundred and fifty tiny home creators who have taken complete responsibility for their living space by going small. By small we mean 500 square feet – or less! And these homes are not only stationary on land, no way. Some are on water, some are in trees, and some are even totally mobile!
For example: meet Wolf Brooks and Lyle Congdon who built a sweet little tiny house on a trailer and took it on the road to Santa Fe, visit the Carbondale Treehouse created by architect Stephen A. Novy, and go for a spin in Jay Nelson’s funky electric car!
And, as a picture’s worth more than a thousand words, there are as many as 1300 images in this lovely book, illustrating every kind of tiny home a person can have. The amount of creativity and ingenuity going into these designs is nothing short of brilliant, and here is the proof! This is a truly inspiring book that everyone should have on their coffee table, in their tiny home, right next to the measuring tape.
