The countdown of the top five most expensive homes in the world for 2016 goes like this:

5. Kensington Palace Garden, United Kingdom. This just happens to be the cheapest mansion on the list, at $222 million US dollars. Arcelor Mittal, the world's largest manufacturer of steel, is its current owner, but it has changed hands many times throughout its history. Kensington Palace resides in London on Billionaire's Row, and is just one of Mittal's three luxury homes. The most expensive home in England, Kensington Palace houses a spa, swimming pool, twelve bedrooms, and enough parking spaces for at least twenty cars.

4. Fair Field, United States. Residing in New York, the Fair Field has thirty-nine bathrooms and twenty-nine bedrooms. At $249 million US dollars, this is by far the most expensive home in America. It's owned by Ira Renner, industrial investor extraordinaire, and it took over five years to construct from 1998 to 2003. Its contents consist of two tennis courts, a movie theatre, three swimming pools, and, to top it off its very own power plant that provides power to the entire complex.

3. Villa La Leopolda, France. Residing in Nice, on the French Riviera, this lavish home is made up of gardens and villas and was, at one time, owned by Belgium's King Leopold II. Its estimated price tag hovered around $750 million US dollars in 2016 but has now gone up to $860 million in British pounds. It's currently owned by Lily Safra, but went on sale in the summer of 2016. An architectural work of art, the home was created by an American designer back in 1929. It houses eleven bedrooms, an exterior kitchen, a large-sized pool, and plenty of other luxurious details. It's yet to be determined who will own this larger-than-life property next.

2. Antilia, India. Of all the homes on this top five list, the Antilia Tower is the most unique and sensational. Residing in Mumbai, it stands at twenty-seven storeys, fifty-six thousand feet high, and employs a 600-person staff to maintain it. Owned by Mukesh Ambani, who is said to be the fifth richest man on the planet, the tower is estimated to be worth a billion US dollars. Some of its highlights include outdoor gardens, three helipads, nine elevators, enough parking spots for 150 vehicles, several swimming pools, and a temple - just to name a few.
