There's a reason dogs are called mans best friend, people absolutely love their pets! Whether it's a dog, a cat or a bird, or anything else for that matter. They are adorable creatures that love us unconditionally, and that in some cases are the only true affection we will receive in a day. Some of the richest dogs in the world have inherited more money than the children of the deceased in the same family! Countless sites and stores sell all sorts of pet-related merchandise, because the market for it is absolutely massive. From comfortable clothes and rain apparel, to shoes, luxurious beds, and delicious foods, people will go to many extents to make their little friend feel as comfortable as possible.

This article on the "Wired" website explores this phenomenon of why people care more about their pets than humans. It seems a little crazy at first, but when you really think about it - it's true. Any sort of animal abuse causes people to feel outraged, whereas the same abuse to a human will result in a less harsh reaction. They give a few examples of incidences where a violent act inflicted on a human gets little to no media coverage, whereas the same act done to a dog received flurries of upset people complaining. It is estimated that the same number of dogs are shot each year as humans, by police officers while on the job.

Another study revealed that many Americans would actually save their pet over a foreign tourist if given the chance, demonstrating yet again the love for our furry creatures over our human counterparts. Whether or not this is true for everyone is unclear, but it's a fascinating thing to ponder. What about you, do you love your pets more than humans?
