Why You Should (Almost) Never Use Your Oven's Self-Cleaning Function

If you are a person who loves to have a clean oven, and who loves to bake anything and everything, there is a very important secret that you should be aware of. People don't tell us this outright, but You Should (Almost) never use your oven's self-cleaning function. I can hear you questioning, "If it comes with the function, then why shouldn't we able to use it?". Using this function has been seen to be the source of a lot of oven related problems. There is a very simple explanation for this, which does, in fact, make sense, although, I am sure that some of you have been using this feature for years and have never had any kind of problem with using this. If that is the case, then that is great! Although you need to understand that by using this option, you do run the risk of your oven going out on you. Specifically that your oven will show signs that the fuse burnt out.

The fuse burning out is the most common problem found with those using the self-cleaning option on their oven. There are two things that can contribute to this. This first is because newer ovens nearly always have hidden heating elements. This results in a problem because it is difficult to vent the heat out and keep the air circulating. The second, which goes along with the lines of the first reason, is that some of these ovens go over 1000 degrees in temperature that is extremely hot, and the air cannot be ventilated properly. If these two occur together, you are likely to have a burnt out fuse causing your oven to not work at all until you get a replacement fuse. Another major problem you face with a burnt out fuse is that they can be extremely expensive to get fixed. In order to fix this problem, the oven will most likely need to be pulled out from the wall because burnt out fuses are easiest to fix when you can access the back of the oven.

The funny thing is, that the oven manufacturing companies all know and acknowledge this as a problem, but they have to keep making the ovens with a self cleaning option because there is such a high demand for it. Go figure, right? People want an easy way to clean their ovens, that involves them doing minimal to no work, but they are willing to risk blowing a fuse? Well, there are plenty of other great ways in which you can clean your oven, none of which involve the self cleaning mode. You can use ammonia, and all you have to do is leave a bowl of ammonia in your oven over night and it works at all of the nasty burnt on food so you can easily wipe it off. Another way is to just use oven cleaner, that stuff works amazingly and you really don't have to do a lot of work either with it.
