When you cook at home, it requires you to own a lot of different items that you need to use for the process of cooking, and when you own all of these items, you need to know how to take care of them too. Here are 10 Cooking Equipment No-Nos from About Food website, that will show you exactly what not to do with your cooking equipment. You can spend a lot of money in collecting all of the things you need in your kitchen to make good meals. There are all of the pots and frying pans you need, as well as knives to chop things and cutting boards to chop them on. Then there are measuring spoons and cups, and all of the cookie sheets and muffin pans, the list could go on and on. You invest a lot of money in all of these things, and you don't want to have to throw it away, so you need to make sure you take care of it all properly, if you want to keep it around.

There are certain things that you just shouldn't do to your cooking equipment, things you need to know to preserve your equipment for as long as you need it for. Knives are a big one that you want to be careful with. There is so much that can dull the sharpness of your knives. Like putting them in the dishwasher, for example. The pressure from the water can actually dull the edge of the blade on the knife, making the knife too dull and you don't want a dull knife! Also, scraping the knife on a cutting board or any other surface can dull the knife too. Also, you can sharpen your knives regularly depending on how much use they get in your kitchen.

Another thing, is to not over wash your cast iron pans! This is a big NO NO. The thing about cast iron, is that it needs the oils and grease from foods to season it and keep food from sticking to it while cooking. You can clean it and there are other ways of cleaning it, but you shouldn't be using scrub pads and soap and water on a pan that is in use. Sometimes, for an initial cleaning of a cast iron pan, you can use soap and water, but after that, you basically just lightly scrape any food off and give it a little wipe with a cloth or paper towel.

Cutting boards are also an item that tends to get damaged unnecessarily. People think that soaking the board will take out scents that have accumulated, but the water will actually warp the wood, making the cutting board an uneven surface to chop on. All you need to do, is wipe it clean or run it under water and let it air dry. A big mistake that people also make is over filling their blenders, and I am guilty of this! You never want to over fill your blender though, as it can be hard on the motor. Make sure you find that line and try your best to stick to staying under the MAX line on the side of your blender, so you can keep it for years to come.

Something else people sometimes over look, is reading their manual before using any kitchen equipment. This is a great way to avoid any mistakes that might happen if you didn't read your manual. Its hard sometimes when you are excited to use your new toy, but it will save you money in the long run if you stick to using it how it is recommended in the manual.
