Rock climbing ranks right up there as an extremely popular sport. Man seems to be able to scale some pretty magnificent rock walls.

This popular sport has captured the spirit of young and old alike with a variety of climbing mediums. From man-made indoor rock walls to climbing towers for children to scramble up at a Fair, to the wonders that Mother Nature herself provides, climbing is here to stay.

There is nothing quite like it and mind-blowing to know that the human body is capable of such feats.

The most difficult and dangerous climbs in the world are as follows:

1. El Capitan

Located in Yosemite National Park is this monolith giant. This 3,000 foot tall sheer vertical cliff face ranks as one of the most challenging rock climbs. Experienced climbers only need attempt this. It can take four to five days to reach the top. These climbers sleep in hammocks hung from pitons in the cliff face.

2. K2 is located on the border between China and Pakistan. It is considered to be more technically challenging than Mount Everest. Many have died trying to climb K2. The face is interwoven with serace, or ice pillars that collapse without warning.

3. Annapurna is a mountain in Tibet. The climb holds the record for the highest fatality rate in the world. The climb has been tried by only 150 people, and 53 have died.

4. Located in the Andes, Siula Grande was not conquered until 1985. The mountain has a sheer vertical ascent on its west face. There is a very thrilling story about climbers Simpson and Yates that after reaching the summit, Simpson fell and broke his let. Yates, tried to help him down with a rope. Simpson was lost over a cliff. Simpson miraculously hopped into camp five day later having survived the fall and survived on melted snow.
