Making a roll up cake recipe simply requires a certain technique so that the long narrow cake you have baked does not break. To be successful, you will line the baking pan with parchment paper, and the parchment paper needs to be lightly greased with butter or non-stick cooking spray. When the cake is freshly baked the steps to take are to remove from the oven, turn onto a clean tea towel that is dusted with confectioners' sugar, peel off the parchment paper then roll up the cake so the tea towel is wrapped inside the cake. This technique must be done while the cake is still warm before the cake cools off, so you do not break the cake. Then you just leave it to sit until it has completely cooled. You make the filling, unroll the cake, spread the filling evenly over the cake, then just roll it back up. It is easier than it sounds.
