Seriously, whenever I am looking for the very best tips to do just about anything, all I do is type in the magic words, and voila! The best tips appear. You have to love it! For easy oven rack cleaning, the wise words from Mrs. Mathis' over at �House Keeping Here� popped up at the top of the list for me. And it was fun to give it a shot.

Do you like house cleaning? Me neither! Who really does, right?! But it's one of those things you just gotta do on a regular basis, if you don't want all heck to break loose and feel like you are living in a pig pen. And if you're anything like me, oven cleaning is one of the most important, yet least favourite, items on that housecleaning to-do list. So, like everyone else out there, I am always looking for the quickest, most effective ways to do things because there never seems to be enough time in the day to get all of the work done! Cleaning your oven racks can be really tedious, not to mention time consuming, and grease sure does build up on them fast! In my own experience, I've found it's a really good idea to clean them regularly � say, once every two months or so, otherwise the grease build-up can start to smoke and even burn while you're cooking, which can be dangerous and stinky. And, if you do clean your oven racks regularly, it won't be as much of a chore as it would be if you leave them for six to eight months or more. Sometimes I also like to put down some tinfoil at the bottom of the oven, to catch any drips, this works wonders, and can be removed when needed and replaced with a new sheet.

Let's look at a few of Mrs. Mathis' excellent, pain-free tips to get us started on the cleaning process. First of all, the best way to clean your oven racks is to take them out of the oven first! There's no point in breaking your back trying to get in there and clean something that easily slides out � this is exactly what they slide out for! There are also two options you can use as far as a cleaner goes � you can go for a heavy-duty chemical cleaner if you're dealing with a lot of build up, but if you don't feel comfortable with that, you can also go for a natural cleaning mixture that involves baking soda, which is really helpful. This is the one I used and it works really well! Baking soda is just abrasive enough to work like a powder cleanser, but without all of the nasty chemicals and toxic smells. The best way is to soak them in the hottest water possible, in the bath tub with some dish soap, and then scrub them and spray them off outside with the garden hose, weather permitting. Scrub them with a good brush too, or some fine steel wool to get any debris off. Rinse them off one final time and shine them up with a clean and dry cloth or rag. Cleaning doesn't have to be hard, as long as you know the right way to do it. So try it out this way!
