Is this a crashed UFO? Strange sighting on Google Maps baffles internet sleuths
Sometimes the most ordinary photo can become the most extraordinary story. While a picture says a thousand words, sometimes it says nothing at all and sometimes we just can’t tell what it’s saying. At coordinates 80°34'08.4"S 30°05’19.3"W there exists a controversy. Is this a crashed UFO? Strange sighting on Google Maps baffles internet sleuths. Will you baffled, or are you sure of what this picture is ‘saying’?
The South Pole, also known as the Celestial South Pole and the Terrestrial South Pole, is only one of the two points where the Earth’s axis of rotation intersects its surface. It is the southernmost point on the surface of the Earth and lies on the opposite side of the Earth from the North Pole. The South Pole is situation on the continent of Antarctica and is the site of the United States Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, which was established in 1956 and has been permanently staffed since that year. The South Pole sits atop a rather plain, featureless, barren, windswept and icy plateau and is located about 1,300 km from the nearest open sea. The ice is estimated to be approximately 2,700 meters (or 9000 feet) thick at the Pole. The polar ice sheet just above the land surface moves at a rate of roughly 10 metres per year (therefore the station and other artificial features shift over time). Due to its exceptionally harsh climate, there are no plants or animals at the South Pole, although in 2000 it was reported that microbes had been detected living in the South Pole ice and in 2014 scientists reported finding thousands of different types of microorganisms in a lake buried 800 meters (2,600 feet) under the Antarctic ice sheet.
If there are no plants or animals, and very few humans at the South Pole, what, then, caused this strange occurrence pictured at coordinates 80°34'08.4"S 30°05’19.3"W? Internet sleuths are convinced the break or crevice is actually the remains of a crashed UFO. Their reasoning? As alien hunter Valentic Degretev said on a Russian social media site, the object is a ‘classic’ shaped UFO. Reported Degretev stated, “In amongst the endless ice desert, it is the most genuine UFO in its most classic shape. It is definitely not a polar station nor a plane as there aren’t any airplanes or helicopters this big.” While there are plenty of UFO sightings elsewhere in the world, due to the small population on the South Pole, UFO sightings are relatively uncommon. However, in 1947 Admiral Richard Bird led 4,000 military troops to invade Antarctica. It was called “Operation Highjump” and it is fact. But the part of the story seldom told, especially in official circles, is that Byrd and his forces allegedly encountered heavy resistance to their Antarctic adventure from “flying saucers” and had to call off the invasion.
So… given that our current knowledge of flying ‘earth crafts’ indicates there is nothing on earth large enough to have created this indentation in the icy desert, but also given that the land surface moves at a rate of roughly 10 metres a year, could this be an alien’s crashed disc, or is this merely a crack in the ice? Google Maps has the picture, internet sleuths have their imaginations. What is yours telling you?
